Tales from Mt. Brook Until the blockbuster revelations in March 2006, we were left to believe that Natalee Holloway was a naive virgin, that did not
drink alcohol, had never had a boyfriend and was perfect in every way. The one thing we knew
after March 2006 was that she certainly was an experienced drinker. Here are few quotes from
earlier comments of friends and family that would try and establish her as
Miss Perfect Natalee.
From a Vanity Fair article January of 2006 According to her mother, Natalee was a typical American teenager, perhaps more driven than most, a fixture on Mountain Brook High's dance team, and who, Beth insists never drank, never had a boyfriend, and never had sex. She is emphatic about this. Left unsaid is the assumption that this gave Natalee little experience in the kind of tequila-fueled revelry for which Aruba is famous. "Natalee was very smart, but," Beth acknowledges, "very naive." June 6, 2005 Natalee called "perfect." Report by Carla Caccavale, on a You Tube Video report from the news media. CBS would have an article June 6, 2005 about "Miss Perfect"
Uncle Paul Reynolds would report, "she does not party much, is achievement-oriented and a straight-A student." "Holloway attends church regularly and would not ever run away." Beth Twitty comments about how incredulous it is that Joran would buy her daughter 151 Rum! She says in an interview
"He just leans across the bar," Twitty says. "The bartender lines up four shots of 151. These girls had no idea. It makes me wonder, is that the shot he was buying my daughter right before closing time, a shot of 151?" and that Twitty said, could have impaired her daughter's judgement.
June 22, 2005 Greta talks to Natalee's friends and they obviously were lying! Greta Van Susteren: She drink? Ruth McVey: (Pause... all students glance at each other).. Yes Greta Van Susteren: Ok.. she's eighteen, I'm not even going.. nothing wrong with her drinking. Did she drink..does she drink uh.. she like to party? Ruth McVey: Oh, are you asking like at home or in Aruba did she drink? Greta Van Susteren: No, in Aruba, I mean she's out with her friends, she's on a class trip I mean look you know it's not like your the first decent people to be eighteen and graduates from high school. We've all done that. Francis Ellen Byrd: You know...in aruba when you are eighteen then you are legal to drink. So... Greta Van Susteren: When she was there was she drinking a lot? Students: (All three shake heads, "no") Ruth McVey: No Francis Ellen Byrd: No Greta Van Susteren: Drinking a little tipsy? Ruth McVey: (Shakes head no) She is really responsible.
Ed Kissel One of Natalee's closest friends had this to say - Obviously another lie! Ed Kissel: (was Natalee intoxicated) I wouldn't say so. We were all having a good time. I'd go so far as to say that, but I wouldn't say intoxicated. Ed Kissel: (was Natalee drinking) Drinking responsibly is what I would say. Along with the rest of us
Francis Ellen Byrd tries to portray Natalee as this perfect girl too. By using her grades and how much everyone liked her Francis is again establishing that perfect character. Everybody in the school loves Natalee. Nobody can say anything bad about her. She is a straight-A student, 25 in a class out of 300 students in a very—school where we studied very hard. She is very—has very many honors. She is in dance team, Bible study. Basically, she is a very responsible, well-loved child to everyone here.
On October 4, 2005 Beth Holloway Twitty may have had one of her more revealing statements - which sounds very much like someone that has been drinking Red Bull and 151 Rum! BETH HOLLOWAY TWITTY: Joran talks about how Natalee says a lot of strange things and very bizarre things. And he makes that comment twice before he says, also -- he states that she`s obviously drunk. And when I hear of her speaking of strange things and what she was saying, you know, that sounds like to me that`s not drunk, but it sounds like that could be drugged, and how she`s also falling asleep and waking up, in his statement.
Here Beth Twitty is very angry reacting to the Current Affair Interview that Joran gave. She actually is blaming her daughter being intoxicated on Joran. She is truly trying very hard to take all the blame away from her own daughter. And now there is this new interview that Joran did with A Current Affair. Tell us about that and tell us why you are so angry about it. BETH: It is typical of Joran, and it is so ironic when you listen to his video tape. He is not to blame for anything. He is placing the blame on the tourism, that they say it is down in Aruba and he is placing that on me. He is placing, as far as Natalee being drunk, he has even admitted during this interview that he buys her the shot that he buys her the drink, and he is blaming her for being drunk. It is like he does not accept responsibility for anything that has gone on when he is the one who is completely responsible for this. He is the reason why Aruba, that the tourism is down.
Whatley FBI And once again we look at the truth the FBI statement from Whatley On Sunday night Whatley advised a group of friends ate dinner. Holloway had a couple of alcoholic drinks at dinner. Holloway was drinking Red Fires which had 151 in them. Although she had a couple of drinks at dinner Holloway "was not out of her mind."
Lee Broughton is another friend that finally states the truth when interviewed by the FBI in January of 2006. Broughton and Holloway were assigned the same hotel room at the Holiday Inn. The daily routine for Broughton and Holloway was to get an alcohol drink and go to the ocean around 10:00 AM in the morning. At around 5:00 PM they would return to thier room for naps. At 6:00PM Broughton and Holloway would get ready to go out to get dinner. After dinner Broughton and Holloway would go outto Bars. Saturday, May 28, 2005, Holloway became very intoxicated and eventually had to be escorted back to her room by (Kevin Broday?). During the morning hours on Sunday, May 29, 2005 Holloway started drinking mixed drinks called " Red Fires" The drinks contain Bicardi 151 and Diet Coke. Holloway became intoxicated and her friends told her to slow down. Holloway and Broughton continued to drink throughout the day. They went to dinner between 6:00 and 7:00 PM. After dinner Holloway and Broughton went to the Hotel Casino to watch Ruth McVay gamble/
Thomas Twitty Perhaps things become more clear, when you read what Thomas Twitty said about what the teens from Mt. Brook were allowed to say regarding the trip. "People who went on the trip aren't publicly discussing details of what happened in Aruba at the request of Holloway's family, which fears the publicity could hamper the investigation? Now how in the world could being honest with the events of those 5 days in any way harm the investigation?
